Urban League Young Professionals
of Pittsburgh

The Urban League Young Professionals of Pittsburgh (ULYP-Pittsburgh), an auxiliary of the Urban League of Pittsburgh, is composed of professionals who live, work and serve in the greater Pittsburgh region between the ages of twenty-one (21) and thirty-nine (39).

This new developing force is composed of key local talent of young professionals who are committed to serving the greater Pittsburgh region through social and civic engagement.

ULYP-Pittsburgh is one of 36 chapters of the National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP), which serves as the umbrella organization under the National Urban League to support the League’s 5 point empowerment agenda:

  • Education and Youth Empowerment
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Health and Quality of Life
  • Civic Engagement and Leadership Empowerment
  • Civil Rights and Racial Injustice Empowerment

(Saturday, May 17) Freedom Corner

Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Pittsburgh and members of the community will host a presentation featuring some of Pittsburgh's Civil Rights pioneers at Freedom Corner in the historic Hill District neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh. Lunch will be served at St. Benedict the Moor Church on Centre Avenue by their Youth Ministry.

(Saturday May 24) Build-A-Play Area / Health Fair

The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh Charter School is in need of a designated play area for the students and the Urban League Young Professionals, have recognized this need. The Young Professionals organized an effort to secure funding and community donations from local businesses and unions to have a fence erected at the Charter School to create a safe play area for the students.

We will also have a health information fair for the children, parents and volunteers with local health agencies and organizations.

(Saturday May 31)Mentoring Our Youth-An Honest Discussion

Members of the Urban League Young Professionals and community volunteers will have a round-table discussion with youth currently placed at Shuman Juvenile Detention Center. Volunteers will talk to the youth about decision making, setting and achieving goals and educational opportunities through personal experiences.
